I recently read in Southern Living about the narrowleaf zinnia. This seems to be a particularly unique variety of the zinnia family. Is the narrowleaf zinnia difficult to grow? Also, where can I purchase the seeds? I have not seen them in our local garden centers.

There are many, many varieties of zinnias but I think you're referring to the 'Chippendale' strain of zinnia. Seeds are available from Thompson & Morgan, Inc., PO Box 1308, Jackson, NJ 08527-0308.
