If Seedlings Planted Soon After Frost Date?I love morning glories and would like to find a type if any that would bloom all summer. Is there such a thing or a similar climber? I've also heard of aclematis that is an all summer bloomer. Can you tell me what the name might be and where I might locate either of these plants or seeds? |
| Unfortunately morning glories are not perennial in cold climates. They begin to bloom in mid summer and then continue until frost, so they do bloom for many months. Planting too early will not help them bloom sooner -- they really prefer hot weather. You may find however that they will self sow and thus come back on their own from year to year and thus seem almost like a perennial. Burpee (800-888-1447) offers morning glory seeds. Although the amount of bloom would not equal that of a morning glory, some clematis such as the Jackman Clematis will bloom off and on all summer if they are kept in vigorous growth and if the weather that year is to their liking, meaning not too hot or dry. To enhance their blooming, provide them with ample water and a cool root run with rich soil.
