The Q&A Archives: Starting Sunflowers in NJ

Question: What month is the best time to start growing sunflowers? Can you start them in the house? Thank you for your time. Kathy Caruso Lodi, NJ

Answer: You can sow sunflowers in New Jersey in early May for flowering in mid summer. If you want you can start them indoors now to really get a jump on the season and transplant them out in one month. Start them in a sunny window or under grow lights, watered and fertilized lightly until you harden them off to go outside in the garden.
