How do you plant Edelweiss bulbs? Should they be planted outdoors in spring or will they survive as a houseplant? If planted outdoors do they have to be dug up in fall? Also what light conditions do they require. |
Leontipodium alpinum is Edelweiss. It's hardy outdoors in zones 4-9. The plant grows 1' tall and spreads about 1' wide. It's an herbaceous perennial (loses its leaves in the winter) so it probably won't make a very attractive houseplant. Edelweiss is a short-lived plant that requires a well-drained soil and exposure to full sun. In cold climates a winter mulch is suggested. The white bracts surrounding yellow flowers occur in summer. The foliage is silver. It's easily propagated by seed or by division. There are no bulbs involved with Edelweiss so I |
