The Q&A Archives: Tomatoes and Early Blight

Question: What tomato varieties do you recommend to plant here in Athens ,Ga that are not as susceptable to early blight? I am careful to rotate my plantings every year. Are there any other practices that might help?

Answer: Both SuperTasty and Heatwave II are Alternaria resistant. In addition to selecting resistant varieties, may I suggest a 3- or 4-year rotation plant, whereby tomato and it's relatives (eggplant, pepper, potato, tomatillo) are not planted in the same location during that time. Also, dispose of diseased plant parts and keep winter weeds to a minimum.
