I am looking for an evergreen that can grow well in my Zone 5 heavy clay soil. We have vernal run off and tend to have wet roots due to high water table. We want the mature size to be a maximum of 25-30 ft. or so, and we'll be planting in groups for screening. The upland is planted with white pine...but they do not like the wetness. How about Thuja? |
Your're right! Thuja (arborvitae) is the best choice for wet areas. They will tolerate wet feet where most of the other evergreen trees will not. Some of the best cultivars available are 'Techny' which is a wide pyramid and 'Emerald' which is fairly narrow. |
