| I moved this last fall and took with me a rhubarb rooting. Not having a place to plant it yet, I put the roots in a box of moist dirt and put in my unheated garage. The temperature has gotten down to 18 below this last month and I am concerned that the roots may be damaged. I could move the box to the basement, but it is heated and I don't want the roots to start sprouting. Should the roots be OK in the cold garage or should I take some action... |
| If the roots are going to be damaged by cold, it will already have happened with a temp. of 18 below. Taking them into warmth will only do more damage. Your best bet now is to leave them in the cold garage but insulate them somehow. A hay bale, lots of blankets, anything you can find to insulate them will help. Then, in spring, get them in the ground as soon as possible. This will give them the best chance for survival. Good luck! |
