The Q&A Archives: Barn Landscaping

Question: I need to protect the barn from wood eating horses. What can I plant around it that they won't eat? The area gets morning sun and has water to the area.

Answer: You pose an interesting question. I'm not sure that horses won't dine on rosa rugosa, but it won't hurt them if they do. Other possibilities include fast-growing hops (Dodonaea viscosa), barberry, or bottlebrush (Callistemon).
