I am looking for options for trees that would fit the following conditions/requirements. Full sun, Zone 6, Mostly clay soil, small to medium size tree, that could be planted on either side of a sidewalk so that it would eventully branchout to create an archway over a front yard sidewalk.

The native redbud (Cercis canadensis) might work for you, as would any number of the newer disease resistant crabapple trees. Make sure to select one which holds its apples to avoid that clean-up problem on the sidewalks and one whose size fits the space you are envisioning. Also be sure to plant the trees far enough apart to accommodate their mature size. This will look silly at first, but in a few years you will be glad you did.
