Answer: A clinging vine such as the evergreen English ivy will cover the chain link, but it will also run along the ground and eventually up into trees. Virginia Creeper will cover chain link but can also take over an area. Among the twining vines, fall blooming clematis and trumpet vine can grow quite far in a season but need to be cut back very hard each spring for best blooming, so they might be a possiblities.
