How do I know when my houseplants have outgrown their pots? |
There ae several ways to tell that it is time to repot. In young plants, they will simply outgrow their containers, pushing roots through the drainage holes and looking out of proportion to the container. They will also require very frequent watering. In older plants, the soil will eventually break down and deteriorate and need to be refreshed. The plant will show some decreased vigor and you will be able to see that the soil has become very compacted. Some types of plants actually grow better somewhat potbound, while others respond extremely favorably to repotting. |
