The Q&A Archives: Planting in Clay Pots

Question: I just bought some clay pots and I remembered reading somewhere that they should be soaked before you plant anything in them for the first time. Is this true and how long should they be soaked for? Marissa Travis Fredericksburg, VA

Answer: I've also heard that, but I don't think that modern clay pots really need to be soaked in water before using. They should be fine just planting directly into them and watering the plants. If you really want to soak them, a few hours would allow the water to penetrate.
