Will a Bird of Paradise plant survive in North Carolina, if the plant is brought in during the winter months? Instead of planting it in the ground I would transplant into a large movable planter.

Bird-of-Paradise can be grown indoors all year around, but you could take it outdoors in the summer to brighten a deck or patio or entryway. Strelitzia (Bird-of-Paradise) requires average household warmth (but keep at 55F-60F in the winter), bright light but shade from hot afternoon sun, regular water during the growing season (allowing the soil to dry out between waterings), and very little water in the winter. Mist the leaves occasionally during periods of active growth. Strelitzia takes a bit of patience - new plants take 4-6 years before flowering starts.
