If I grow potted roses on my small second story apartment deck, is there any way to protect them over the winters? I live in the foothills of the Adirondacks, Upstate NY.

There are several options. One would be to sink the pots in the ground at a friend's house in the fall, another would be store them in a friend's cold basement or unheated garage where they can go dormant, another would be to try to protect them from wind and cold and insulate the pots as best you could and keep them on the balcony. If you plant to keep them on your balcony, try to purchase own-root roses hardy into zone 4 or colder. Enjoy your roses!
