Any advice on where I can purchase a cherry tree and a pear tree for my backyard? (Hopefully through Burpee). I would also appreciate any information on varieties of trees, time of year to plant, easy of care, pollination, pruning, yield, etc.

Burpee does not sell fruit trees but you might find what you are looking for at a fruit specialist nursery such as Raintree. (http://www.raintreenursery.com) Most fruit tree sellers will include pollination charts and planting instructions suited to the varieties they offer. Bare root trees are usually shipped in very early spring and should be planted immediately according to the supplier's instructions. With regard to varieties, your County Extension (690-2655) should be able to suggest some known to do particularly well (or warn you about some known to do poorly) in your local area, and they should also have care recommendations and spray schedules specifically geared to the weather and disease and insect patterns specific to your immediate area.
