Can you recommend a shrub that is fast growing and drought tolerant that I can plant in my yard as a kind of "living fence" to block out noise etc. I am looking for something that will grow fairly quickly and be able to survive the Texas heat.

Diana,

Fast growing and drought resistant are difficult to come by in one shrub. In order to get a shrub up to a good size quickly you will need to water and fertilize it. Some considerations are clumping bamboo (not running types as those are more invasive), pyracantha and oleander.

Thanks for the question and good luck with you new hedge!
