The Q&A Archives: Tips for Planting Cosmos Seeds

Question: If I plant cosmos seed now, will it germinate? Linda Melvin Dayton, OH

Answer: It's probably a bit too cold in the soil yet in Dayton for them to germinate properly. I'd wait until the end of the month to plant cosmos, or preheat the soil with black plastic, remove it, sow the seeds and then cover the ground with a floating rowcover to keep them warm. If you're really really itching to go, this would be the way to plant early.
