In your cold-winter climate gardenias will grow best as a houseplant, or under greenhouse conditions. That's probably why you can't find any at local nurseries. Gardenias are usually available through florist's or the houseplant sections of larger stores with garden departments. If you're still unsuccessful in locating gardenia plants in your area, contact Bel-R Greenhouse, Inc., 12415 5th Pl. SW, Seattle, WA 98146 (phone 206-244-7783).

Gardenias are one of my favorite plants. I grow them indoors during the winter months, then take them outdoors during the spring and summer so I can enjoy their fragrance on the patio.
