The Q&A Archives: Cactus for Northeast OH

Question: What cactus can I grow in Northeast Ohio? I've seen some in local gardens--they look like prickly pear--but I'm not sure. Thanx! Sandy Brown Akron, OH

Answer: There are some hardy prickly pear cactus (Kalimeris) that are hardy to zone 6. They may survive your Akron, Ohio winters too. They are fall blooming, from Japan and perhaps worth a try in a protected spot in your garden. Check out local garden centers or the following nursery for different varieties, Carroll Gardens 444 East Main St. Westminster, MD 21157 1-800-638-6334
