I want to landscape. I would like to select some flowering shrubs that will come into color from early spring to late fall. My house gets sun from the south and west. I would also like these shrubs to be fragrant. My house is drark brown and I would like to use this background to add lots of outside color to my home.

There are many early blooming shrubs you might consider such as forsythia, chaenomeles, and old fashioned spirea. Additional spring bloomers would include lilac and mock orange as well as weigela. Moving into summer you might consider the pink flowering spireas, potentilla shrubs, and Rose of Sharon which all bloom over a very long period. For mid to late summer color you could use butterfly bushes and caryopteris. If you have a sheltered location, the oak leafed hydrangea would provide some very late season blooms as well. If you like roses, they are another possibility for all season color.
