I am curious as to whether a juice machine would work for making large amounts of tomato juice. This would cut out the cooking and straining, then just heat the juice and can it. Is this a viable option, or a waste of money? |
A juice machine might work, but a less expensive alternative (if you don't already have the juicer) is a Victorio strainer. These are available through many mail order kitchen catalogs, some mail order seed catalogs and many retail kitchen stores. You put the tomatoes in the hopper at the top, turn the crank and juice with some pulp comes out one chute and seeds and skin come out another. I use the juice for straight juice, sauce or even to dry for soups. If you choose to go the juicer route, I would definitely contact the manufacturer about tomato juice before purchasing. Good luck! |
