I plan on building raised vegetable beds, my question is how deep should the beds be. I plan on growing tomatoes, beans, beets, carrots, cucumbers and lettuse. Space is not a problem, the beds will be built of interlocking cement blocks. |
Your beds should have 12"-18" of good soil to accommodate the roots of your plants. You can build them higher for ease in gardening; the higher the top of the bed, the less bending over you'll have to do! Besides draining well, soil in raised beds will dry faster and warm earlier in the season, giving you a head start on growing. |
