I am looking for a general reference book on home landscaping. I would mainly like information on flowers and shrubs like: pruning instructions, troubleshooting and planting. Any suggestions?

One I particularly like is "Gardening for Dummies" by Michael MacCaskey, Dummy Press, ISBN 1-56884-644-4. In it you will find straightforward information about a wide variety of landscaping tasks including the ones you mentioned. Additional gardening books in the Dummies series are equally helpful but delve into more specific areas of gardening.
