| I got hyacinth as a gift and the flowers were wilting after it came to a full bloom for a couple of days. The leaves look very healthy still. Is there anything I can do to help it? |
| Hyacinth blooms last longest at cooler temperatures and may not last all that long indoors, especially if your home is warm and rather dry as most of ours become during the heating season. If you plan to try to keep the bulb and eventually plant it outdoors, enjoy the blooms and when they fade remove the bloom stem by trimming it off at the base. Then grow the foliage in a very bright and cool location until the weather settles a bit outdoors. Keep the soil slighlty moist but not sopping wet. Then plant it outdoors in a well drained, sunny spot. The foliage will die back but the bulb should resprout next year. It is important to keep the foliage growing as long as possible and then allow it to fade and turn dry naturally. This process is the the bulb's way of recharging itself so it can bloom next year. |
