| I just bought a house that has some lovely landscaping. One of the border plants is (I'm told) Bear Grass. I was wondering if it required a cut back in the Spring since it didn't die off this winter (it stayed green). |
| Bear Grass can be Nolina or Xerophyllum tenax. Either plant can be allow to grow until it becomes overgrown for the site. At that point you can dig and divide, replanting each division. You won't need to cut the bear grass back, but you can remove damaged leaves at any time. Expect your bear grass to produce long stalks, and tiny little flowers this summer. It's a great plant for dry soils, so don't overwater! |
