I recently bought a bunch of cut flowers and in them was the most beautiful dianthus. It looked from a distance like butterflies - purple ones. It had several shades of purple, darker rims and centers and lighter spots on petals. What a gorgeous flower, and I'd love to have it. If you can supply a name or the seeds, please advise.

I think you're describing Dianthus chinensis heddewigii 'Minstrels'. The flowers on these plants glitter and sparkle like sunshine on icicles, and they're fragrant, too. Seeds are available from Thompson & Morgan, PO Box 1308, Jackson, NJ 08527-0308.

Enjoy!!
