I have two roses in containers that I wintered over in my garage. They are now forming buds and it is only late Febuary. Should I pinch the buds off or cut the canes back more? |
Assuming these are hybrid tea roses, I would gradually move them outdoors, but be ready to cover them or snatch then inside on a severely cold night. The buds and foliage are surprisingly cold resistant; the main reason for protecting them indoors is to keep the roots (and graft) away from extreme temperatures. These roses are normally pruned again in spring, so once they are outdoors simply follow routine pruning suggestions. |
