I have softened water in my home and use it to water my houseplants. I have noticed a buildup of salt on the clay pots and soil. How do I "clean" the soil to get rid of the salt?

The easiest way to treat salt-buildup is to leach the salts out of the soil by flooding with water, waiting 30 minutes, flooding again, waiting another 30 minutes and flooding a third time. Be sure to use bottled rather than softened water. To prevent this from happening again, you can use bottled water for your houseplants, or collect rainwater and use it exclusively for your plants.
