Strawberries grown from seed will not produce a crop the first year. In fact, even with plants that are purchased, it is recommended to remove the blossoms and fruit that appear that year to allow the development of a strong plant. So if you start your strawberries from seeds you will not be ahead of the game, but it would sure be a satisfying effort!
