The Q&A Archives: Germinating Tips for Moonflower

Question: I've followed directions and started my seeds indoors for the moonflower and everlasting peas. Why after the alotted time, did they fail to sprout? JOANNE Garelli Monmouth Beach, NJ

Answer: Did you file the seedcoat of the seeds? These seeds have a hard seed coat. I have found that soaking the seeds for 24 hours, as is sometimes recommended, is not as effective as gently nicking the seed coat. Keep waiting a little longer--germination might simply be delayed. You might also try starting a new batch--this time gently file or nick the seed coat before planting.
