The Q&A Archives: Planting Anemone St. Brigids

Question: What is the best location for planting anemones? Full Sun or Partial Shade? What type of soil do they thrive in?

Answer: Anemone coronaria is sometimes called Florist's anemone because of its large, showy flowers. Saint Brigid is a variety of A. coronaria. A. coronaria won't thrive if winter temperatures are 25 degrees F or lower. (They orginated in the Mediterranean area and are different from A. blanda, which is more cold-hardy.) They like sunny, dry conditions. Soil should be amended but must have excellent drainage. Plant about one inch deep and four inches apart.
