I have a Bird of Paradise plant and would like some information on how to care for it. How to repot it? Can I start new plants from the small leaves that are starting to grow? How often does it need to be watered? Can it be outside in the summer?

Bird-of-Paradise can be grown indoors all year around, but you could take it outdoors in the summer to brighten a deck or patio or entryway. Strelitzia (Bird-of-Paradise) requires average household warmth (but keep at 55F-60F in the winter), bright light but shade from hot afternoon sun, regular water during the growing season (allowing the soil to dry out between waterings), and very little water in the winter. Mist the leaves occasionally during periods of active growth. Strelitzia takes a bit of patience - new plants take 4-6 years before flowering starts.

You can divide the plants by digging and separating the new little plants, taking roots along with the tops. Repot in the spring just as new growth begins.
