A red plastic mulch has been shown to increase production by helping warm the soil and keep it moist and control competing weeds just as a black mulch would do, but it also reflects a light wavelength which enhances fruit development. The technology has been licensed as Selective Reflective Mulch (SRM) and you may see it being used in tomato and strawberry production, for example. I hope that answers your question.
