I live in Phoenix. I read through other questions about avocados and learned how to start them but there was a comment about how one started from a pit from an avocado bought at a store would not produce. Why not? Will they grow well in AZ? Most advice was to plant them in a pot, bur can they grow in the ground? I love your web site; it has answered many of my questions.

Glad you enjoy the website! Avocados typically don't grow well outdoors in Phoenix, so I'd recommend trying them in a container indoors. They thrive the milder climate in the San Diego area. I've started them from avocados bought at the store, as do most people, so give it a try! Good luck!
