I have two lavender bushes, and each are woody and spindly. When is the best time to prune and what is the best way to do it?

Lavenders have a tendency to get quite woody after 3-4 years. Cut back no more than 1/3 of the plant in early spring just as new growth starts, as lavenders do not easily bush out from old wood. Pruning each spring will help keep your lavender compact with lots of new flowers each summer.
