Answer: Unfortunately, there's not a lot we can do to slow down the plants so we might as well enjoy the show for as long as it lasts. Most of them are well acclimated to cold weather however and should survive whatever happens, although the flower buds on some of them might be hurt by extreme cold. You could try covering them with some loose mulch such as oak leaves or straw if there is an extremely cold spell, this might provide just enough protection to save the buds. Otherwise, we are all crossing our fingers.
