| Help! I started my sweet pea seeds in Jiffy pellets last weekend and noticed a few of them had sprouted this morning. When I got home from work, I went to move the seedlings that had sprouted to a different flat with more light. When I picked them up, I noticed the roots had grown through the bottom and sides of the Jiffy pellet. I checked several Jiffy pots that didn't even have a seedling above the surface, and several of them had roots growing out. I'm worried the roots are going to dry out and die. Should I plant them outside immediately (there are no true leaves yet...) |
| I would condition them (which might slow them down temporarily as they adjust to the cold and you withhold water very slightly to harden them off) and plant them outside as soon as possible. Sweet peas, like garden peas, can be seeded outdoors about five weeks before the last expected frost and are very cold tolerant. |
