I planted 150 bare root privet last spring. during the growing season I was instructed to prune back new grow at 6 inches. This would stimulate strong shrubs. Do I continue to cut them back as hard this year?

If you pruned them at six inch intervals the hedge should be coming in strong and dense. Continue to do this until it reaches the height you need. Be careful to maintain an overall shape that it narrower at the top and wider at the base. This will allow light to reach the bottom of the hedge and keep it from thinning out over time.
