The Q&A Archives: Freeing Seedlings from Seedcoats

Question: We have various flowers, herbs

Answer: I'm glad you enjoy the web site! I've found that being patient is the best solution to the problem you describe. Eventually, as long as they are getting plenty of water and light, I've found that the little plant will flex with growth and pop offthe seedcoats. I've made the mistake of trying to remove the seed coat and have decapitated the poor seedlings, which really sets them back. Make sure your seedlings are within an inch of the light bulbs, as this intensity is necessary to keep them growing strong and stout.
