Cayenne pepper sprinkled around plants is reported to irritate both snails and slugs when they slide over it. You can try it and see how it works in your garden.

Other irritants include crushed eggshells and diatomaceous earth sprinkled around vulnerable plants.

Hope you win the battle over the snails!
