I just purchased a Hardy Bletilla Orchid. This is my first attempt at growing an orchid. Should I put in a pot or on bark, outside or inside, etc.

Susan,

Bletilla striata is known as a Ground Orchid and is a spring bloomer. They are not like the traditional orchids you see growing on bark, but are soil dwellers. They are hardy in your area. Grow them like you would a clumping perennial.

Plant them in a bright shade location. They do especially well beneath a deciduous tree canopy. Direct morning sun exposure is also good. Container culture is also possible. They love a moist, but not soggy, humus-rich soil.
