| I live in an area that is heavily traveled by deer. Our yard is not fenced and they come and go as they please. I would like to plant some flowers or shrubs with a lot of color that would not be treated as the salad bar at Sizzler by our little friends. We rent the home and the landscape is definitely "native". It has a lot of juniper and oleander all of which are overgrown but due to the angle of the hill our house is cut into, pruning is almost an impossible task. There are a lot of weeds. And then there's the question of irrigation. I almost think I would be better off with pots (both big & small) of flowers but these must also be deer resistant |
| Deer are a real problem on many plants. Lists of deer-resistant plants exist but I must warn you...if they are really hungry they'll eat just about anything, regardless. And, hunger expands their palate and increases their bravery. Sprays of egg solids, hot pepper oil and other such ingredients are available and may help some, especially when the deer "pressure" is not too high. Human hair (from the local barber shop) in bags made of hosery and perfumed soaps have worked for me when they had other options to feed upon.
