How and where should I plant Forsythia in Houston? Past attempts have not survived the summer.

William,

Forsythia needs sun and a well-drained soil. Mix some compost into the soil and give them a raised planting bed to insure good drainage. Keep them moist but avoid over-watering.

They are not thrilled to be that far south and may not perform as well with their early spring bloom show (like they would up north). Nevertheless, they can be grown in your area.
