| I bought a chinese wisteria with a good set of blooms already. I thought this was a good sign for continuing blooming. What can I do for its general care? I have a wonderful sunny place with a ardor for it. Can I still have problems with getting it established to continue blooming? |
| Wisteria do best in average soil with plenty of sun and need a very sturdy arbor to support them. Since your vine has already shown its ability to bloom that should not be a problem in the future. Some wisterias, usually those grown from seed, are "shy" about blooming and it may take years for them to become mature enough to do so. Yours on the other hand was possibly grafted using an already blooming vine for the top section and should be fine. Do take care to prepare a large planting area for the vine, keep it mulched with several inches of organic mulch, and make sure the soil is kept moist but not soggy for the first season or two while it is becoming established. |
