The Q&A Archives: Rutabaga Vs Turnip

Question: Is a rutabaga the same as a turnip? What is the difference?

Answer: These two root crop brassicas are related but have distinctly different flavors. Turnips are Brassica rapa. The roots grow nearly round and turnips have creamy white flesh. Rutabaga is Brassica napus. The roots can grow up to 8" and are yellow-fleshed.
