I have not had much success growing portulaca from seed. Are the watering requirements different from most other annuals? Once they germinate, they seem to be dying off, unlike the many other annuals given the same care.

Portulaca is very sensitive to overwatering, especially if temperatures are low and/or they are stressed for light. In a way this makes sense when you consider that they like it hot, relatively dry, and very sunny in the garden. Next time, you might try adding a bit of extra perlite to their potting mix to help it drain faster, and take care not to overwater them.
