Strelitzia (Bird-of-Paradise) can be grown indoors in bright light all year around,
but you could also take it outdoors in the summer to brighten a
deck or patio or entryway. If you set it outside, give it morning sun.
It requires average household warmth (but keep at 55F-60F
in the winter), regular water during the growing season (allowing the soil to
dry out between waterings), and very little water in the
winter. Mist the leaves occasionally during periods of active
growth. Fertilize when it is in active growth with a complete fertilizer. The plant seems to bloom best when pot bound, and also takes a bit of patience - new plants take
4-6 years before flowering starts.
