Do you know what type of sunflower is typically used by florists? The variety I'm after have very dark centers (1- 1 1/2" diameter), long, deep yellow, frilly petals.

Unfortunately I am not familiar with that particular one of the many florist specialty varieties of flowers. Based on your description it might be one of the "teddy bear" types such as "Giant Sungold". You might try asking your florist for the name of the plant you have in mind. Keep in mind that many of the cut flowers are imported, so it may be a sunflower "lookalike" rather than a sunflower (Helianthus annuus) per se. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful.
