Answer: Caladiums grow best in warm shade (they're native to the tropics). To plant in pots, use equal parts coarse sand, leaf mold and ground bark or peat moss. Use a 5-inch pot for small (2 1/2") tubers and a 7-inch pot for larger tubers. Plant each tuber, knobby side up, 2" below the soil surface and keep the growing medium moist but not soggy wet. Feed every week with a diluted fish fertilizer once the leaves appear.
