| Shade, and full shade, come in different degrees depending on its source and the orientation of the location, so it may take some experimentation for you to determine which plants do best in the location you have. Violas and aquilegias tend to bloom best in some sun, either morning light or dappled light. Pulmonaria does well in fairly heavy shade, as does liriope spicata. The omphaloides may do well for you if the soil is evenly moist and yet well drained. Some additional plants to consider for deep shade are hosta and ferns. These are both available in a wide variety of foliage textures and colors and some of the newer hostas produce larger, more fragrant blooms. |
